Awards night: celebrating the people behind the club

The club's awards honour the players, coaches and volunteers who make Warrandyte Basketball what it is.

Trophies and medals on a table under red stage lights

Every season at Warrandyte runs on people: the coaches who give up their weeknights, the team managers who run the scoring roster, the referees, the committee, and the players who turn up and lift everyone around them. Awards night is when we stop and say thank you.

The club’s awards

Five awards are presented each year, some of them for more than 40 years:

  • Club Award, for a member’s significant contribution to the health, welfare and improvement of the club.
  • Tom Hay Memorial Award, for a senior member’s service to the club over the past 12 months, in memory of former coach and referee Tom Hay.
  • Daryl Valentine Memorial Award, for a junior member’s service to the club, in memory of the club’s first junior president.
  • Coach of the Year, for a coach in any program who has achieved outstanding results.
  • Ross McLellan Memorial Award, encouraging a coach who has shown a willingness to learn and improve.

Every winner since the first is on our honour rolls.

Congratulations

To every award winner, and to everyone who nominated someone: thank you. The awards only work because members take the time to notice each other.

Your turn

Nominations for next year are open to every registered member and go to the Secretary by 1 August. And if this year made you want to help, there’s a job for everyone: see how you can lend a hand.

Editor's note. From the club's Instagram post of 2 October. Add the 2026 recipients, a photo from the night and a few words from each winner once the club confirms them.

Get on the court
