Warrandyte BasketballHome of the Venom Contact

Who we are

A not-for-profit club on the Yarra, run by volunteers since 1965, for the families of Warrandyte and the suburbs around it.

Run by the community, for the community

The Warrandyte Basketball Association is a not-for-profit club governed by a board of volunteers. We give the people of Warrandyte and its neighbouring suburbs a way into basketball, from a child's first go at the game to adults playing at a semi-professional level.

We run programs in three competitions, with a pathway from junior basketball to the VBL. We care about strong family and community connections, a place to play for every level of skill, and a good club culture.

Everything traces back to three things

Mission and values
  1. A Redbacks coach drawing up a play on a whiteboard for his team in a timeout

    Development

A pathway from the very beginnings of the sport all the way to the elite level. Primary school to semi-professional. A pipeline.

  2. Three Redbacks teammates laughing together on court

    Fun

Sport should be fun. Playing just for exercise or taking a more serious approach, either way, we're all here to have a good time.

  3. A young Redback with a grand final medal high-fiving family in the crowd

    Community

A community-based organisation, run by and for people from Warrandyte and its neighbouring suburbs. Let's all get involved.

The committee

Ten volunteers who run the club between them. Places on the committee are filled at the annual general meeting: ask us if you would like to stand.

Lend a hand

Our volunteer committee puts many hours into running three programs, and every bit of help counts, even a small one. Pick a job, or tell us what you're good at.

Offer to help
  • Coach

Most coaches are parents or past players. Over 18s need a Working With Children Check.

  • Team manager

Every Redbacks team needs one: the scoring roster, weekly game details, first point of contact.

  • Referee

Train with the Warrandyte Park Orchards Referee Branch. Juniors welcome.

  • Washing roster

Court towels and clash tops, taken home in turns.

  • Fundraising

Help run the events that keep fees down.

  • Diary articles

Write up the club's news for the Warrandyte Diary.

Our patch

Warrandyte, North Warrandyte and Warrandyte South are home, and most of our players come from the suburbs around them. Two local clubs play here on Saturdays, and both lead to Venom.

  1. Saturdays

    Your local club

Weekly games in the EDJBA, the eastern suburbs' junior competition, from Under 8s up. The Redbacks are our own club; the Steelers are our neighbours in Park Orchards.

  2. Friday nights

    Venom

    Venom juniors

Our representative teams in the VJBL, the state-wide junior league. Players from the local clubs try out each October.

  3. Seniors

    Venom

    Venom in the VBL

Youth League and senior teams in the state league, for the players who keep climbing. The Venom pathway
